A New Chapter in Ocean Plastic Prevention
In 2024*, CleanHub and Green Worms Waste Management unveiled a transformative milestone in the fight against plastic pollution: the inauguration of our Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Kasaragod.
(*"But CleanHub, it's 2025, why are you only talking about this now?" We hear you, and fair point... can we still play the start up card?)
This facility not only exemplifies sustainable waste management but also serves as a beacon for community empowerment and environmental stewardship.
For a closer look at the facility and its operations, watch the full video here:
A Collaborative Vision Realized
The partnership between CleanHub and Green Worms has culminated in the establishment of a state-of-the-art MRF capable of processing up to 6,000 tonnes of mixed dry household waste annually. This initiative is a significant stride toward CleanHub’s mission of preventing ocean-bound plastic and fostering dignified waste management practices in coastal communities.
The facility's operations are bolstered by advanced equipment, including conveyor belts, baling presses, and forklifts, ensuring efficient and safe processing of collected waste.
Empowering Communities and Creating Impact
Beyond environmental benefits, the MRF has a profound social impact.
It has created 40 full-time jobs and extended proper waste management services to 15 villages in the region. Notably, the collection efforts are carried out by women self-help groups, providing critical employment opportunities and fostering community development.
The facility adheres to the highest social standards, with investments in staff welfare and community engagement. Plus, CleanHub's trash-tracking technology ensures transparency and accountability in waste collection and processing.
A Blueprint for Global Replication
This MRF serves as a replicable model for sustainable waste management in high-leakage regions. CleanHub and Green Worms aim to expand this blueprint to other coastal communities, aligning with their vision of a world where all household waste is managed under dignified and fair conditions.
